BenGhaTo Africa performs traditional and contemporary music and dance from West Africa. The group’s primary members were trained in the cultures of Benin (drummer and dancer Etienne Cakpo), Ghana (master drummer Yaw Amponsah), and Togo (dancer and drummer Kokou Gbakenou). Since meeting in Seattle, these performers have learned one another’s cultural traditions and worked together to perform and teach West African culture in the Puget Sound region and beyond. Seattle-based percussionists Michelle Doiron, Greg Campbell, and Thomas Campbell round out the group.
